Two objects, two ways of holding. The candle releases the fragrance as the wax heats up: it fills the room quickly and goes away with the flame. The diffuser works cold, by capillary action, and never stops.
Together, they cover both moments: the diffuser in the background, all day. The candle when you want the room to change.
Both fragrances come with a certificate of conformity with IFRA standards, issued by the supplier for each use.
The diffuser. Remove the cover, insert the reeds and let them soak up the fragrance. Turn them over once a week to refresh the scent. Keep out of direct sunlight and drafts.
The candle. On the first lighting, let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the glass for two to three hours. Trim the wick to 5 mm before each use. Never burn for more than three hours at a time.

The diffuser bottle is not refillable. The candle glass, however, can be kept once the wax is finished.
The naked flame candle. Never leave it burning unattended. Keep out of reach of children and pets, away from curtains and anything that can catch fire, on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Stop when there is one centimeter of wax remaining.
The liquid diffuser. The diffusion is dry: no droplets settle on surfaces. The liquid must never be ingested or come into contact with the skin, eyes, or mucous membranes. Place the bottle where it cannot be knocked over.
The fragrances contain allergenic substances, including eugenol. The full list is provided on the label of each product.

What we can prove
Each fragrance is accompanied by a certificate of conformity with IFRA standards, issued by the supplier and updated with each amendment. The certificate sets a usage limit for each product category, which differs for candles and diffusers. The two items in this set are formulated according to their respective limits, not an average.

Most brands sell either a candle or a diffuser. At ESSENCE 1989, every fragrance is available in both, made from the same formula—the same ingredients, the same proportions. The candle for evenings, the diffuser for continuous fragrance. No need to match them: they’re already a perfect pair.
OPEN, LIGHT, BREATHE
Place the reeds Remove the gold cap, then the inner stopper. Place the reeds in the bottle — all together, or fewer for a more subtle trail.
It’s the motion that releases the intensity. The more you flip it, the stronger the fragrance becomes—and the faster the bottle empties.
the first lighting Let the wax melt to the edges of the glass for two to three hours. That’s the only step that really matters.
A wick that is too long smokes and blackens the glass.
The wax overheats and the fragrance degrades. Let it cool before relighting.
When there is one centimeter of wax left at the bottom, the candle has done its job.
